This paper discusses the subject of violence within the family in the international suicidology literature. It addresses the problem of the marginal role of the “violence against women” perspectives in contemporary suicidality. To address this, we will discuss two different factors: first, some historical and moral obstacles affecting the recognition of the issue of domestic violence and its relation to suicidology theories and concepts; and secondly, some issues specific to the contemporary development of suicidology, that violence against women perspectives struggle to address.
