The empirical study of the experiences of environmental victimization. A green-cultural criminological approach

By Lorenzo Natali
English

The article explores the processes of environmental victimization from the perspective of “green-cultural criminology”. It promotes the adoption of a visual approach in qualitative investigation, using a method known as “photo-elicitation”. To do so, it relies on general elements as well as on a case study conducted in Huelva, in southern Spain, a city severely polluted by the nearby presence of chemical plants established in the 1960s. This contribution underlines the importance of conducting empirical fieldwork on the social perception of environmental damage while being particularly sensitive to the experiences and narratives of the actors themselves, with all that this implies in terms of contradictions and disagreements, even conflicts.
