« Prisonised » Work: A Convict Perspective

In contrast to the media debate where many regard work in prison as a panacea against recidivism, we try to recreate the point of view of the inmates on the basis of their own working experience inside the prison. Inspired by the New School of Convict Criminology, this article seeks to explore the complex relations between the inmates and work, examining some stages such as access to employment, management of everyday work, and licence procedures. Critical analysis is focused on the authority accorded to outside firms and on their involvement in disciplinary measures.
