Progressive Appropriation of Doping Culture in Cycling

This paper attempts to shed light on how cyclists appropriate the “culture of doping” during their sports career. The entrance into the professional environment seems to be a critical moment in the development of doping practices. While there seems to be a “culture of doping” in the professional environment, the cyclist culture is more focused on nutritional supplements prior to entering the professional level. With the evolution of the level of training and the entry into the professional environment, one observes a progressive shift from using authorized substances to banned substances, which is influenced by more experienced cyclists.
