This paper attempts to identify why and how, from 2002, the French juvenile justice system was dismantled by the new political administration. Since then, the penalization of juvenile antisocial behavior has increased and the only response has been to take juveniles into custody. This paper also discusses alternative measures and their objectives (such as the “third way”). In conclusion, this paper examines how the criminal justice system impacts other institutions and the consequences of this influence.
