The Treatment of Juvenile Delinquency in Slovenia

Criminal policy towards the adult offenders is becoming more repressive in Slovenia, but the main characteristic of dealing with juveniles is still protection. The courts impose non-institutional educational measures in approximately 90% of all cases. The introduction of mediation has not resulted in net-widening of the criminal justice system. The statistics indicate that the number of juveniles in prison and in pre-trial detention is increasing slightly but the rate is still quite low.
