Whistle-Blowing as a Form of Deviance? Whistleblowers Between Denunciation and Betrayal

This paper suggests interpreting whistle-blowing in terms of an asymmetrical situation that gives rise to competing definitions. Each party attempts to impose and to legitimate its viewpoints and practices. This paper interprets this phenomenon as a distinct form of deviance that is a matter for the sociology of betrayal and relates to the splintering of social bonds.
