Measuring Insecurity and Fear of Crime in Germany and France

This article draws a comparative picture of the development of crime attitudes in France and Germany since 1970 using national and international empirical studies. The secondary analysis shows quiet different patterns of the development between the two countries. Beside methodological and theoretical considerations on the fear of crime studies and the presentation of their results, the article also proposes some explanations for the different patterns between the two countries.
