Sex Work in Erotic Service Establishments: A Form of Marginalized Labor

By Colette Parent, Chris Bruckert
English

This research focuses on sex work in erotic establishments (massage parlors, apartments, private erotic performance in commercial establishments). The activities are examined as work and the authors present the organization of the labour, the working relations and the specific challenges the workers confront. The latter include the non-institutional character of the work and the consequences of the association of sex with intimacy. The findings highlight the similarities and differences between sex work and other types of work in the service sector.
