Toward a Sociological Definition of Moral Crusades

By Lilian Mathieu
English

The article suggests a temporary definition of the concept of “moral crusade.” It suggests that the specificity of this kind of mobilizations neither lies in the moral nature of their claims or preoccupations, nor in their conservative or reactionnary nature, but in the absolutist dimension of their world view, and in their belief in the universality of the values they defend, leading them to reject moral pluralism or relativism.
