The authors draw upon the results of a victimisation survey in the Greater Paris Area to outline, as an alternative to the abstract category of victim, various profiles of victims. These profiles result from the combination of the circumstances of the incident, the way it is experienced, and the ways it is responded to. Moreover, various victims have unequal resources to tap from, which influence the way they experience the victimisation situation and deal with it.
