Drug abuse violation arrests and general population surveys provide two distinct data sources about cannabis users. In the present paper, we assessed the relevance of arrest data and their interpretation in the light of police strategies. Then we compared the sociodemographics of arrested cannabis users and surveyed cannabis users. Finally, data from general population surveys illustrated the socio-behavioural variety of cannabis users, who are also unequally at risk of arrest.
