Career, Identity, and Leaving the Street: The Case of Street Children

By R. Lucchini
English

This paper demonstrates that various ways of getting off the streets exist. This diversity can be primarily attributed to the identity dynamics of children who exhibit a desire to leave the streets. This paper proposes a typology of ways of getting off the streets. According to it, leaving the streets is not a linear and progressive process, but it involves a break in the child’s biographical line or the exhaustion of the resources that made living on the streets possible. This paper views getting off the streets as a step in the career of the child.
