The Emotional Regulation of Dealing With Sexual Violence In Switzerland
By Cindy Mendes, Michela Villani
English
In a society in need of a response to sexual violence, it is important to think about the professionals charged with collecting the victims’ stories. This need is part of a desire to avoid emotional overload for the professional and the development of vicarious trauma. To prevent it, various protective factors exist and need to be put in place. These include cognitive and physical regulation strategies for emotions, as well as occupational activities aimed at separating work and personal life. In this context, it is important to make these professionals aware of the risks of trauma in the care relationship, and to set up training courses on learning protective factors.
