The Impact of Computerization on Socio-judicial Assistance in Belgium

This paper analyzes the contemporary changes to the socio-judicial assistance for offenders brought about by computerization. Based on an empirical study of the practices of Belgian probation officers, this paper shows how a computer application called SIPAR is reshaping social work in justice matters and how it relates to the issues of normalization, control, and administrative management.
