Rwanda is the sole country in the world where survivors and genocide perpetrators continue to live in the same villages after the crimes perpetrated during the genocide were revealed publicly in the Gacaca courts. This article analyses the nature of social relationships restored between the survivors and perpetrators who find themselves living neareach other after completing their sentence. Based on three empirical studies, the articlehighlights the diversity of strategies deployed both by perpetrators and victims in the interpersonal reconciliation process and investigates their impact on the depth and the fragility of recovered relationships.
