Technology That Places Distance between French Society and Offenders. The Electronic Centralization of Socio-Judicial Records

The electronic centralization of socio-judicial data within the French probation services reveals the new forms of reasoning that now dominate the landscape of serving sentences. Based on the observation of the uses of the software named APPI and the criminological diagnosis (DAVC), which was recently integrated into it, this paper attempts to show how these technologies are creating more distance from convicts due to their standardization and evaluation effects. These are opposed to the individualization and social support system previously in use.
